+ | Vladimir Batagelj (born in Idrija, Slovenia 1948), Department of Mathematics, FMF, University of Ljubljana and Department of theoretical computer science, Institute for Mathematics, Physics and Mechanics, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Professor of Discrete and Computational mathematics, Ph.D. in Mathematics 1986. He started as researcher at Institute Jožef Stefan, Ljubljana. Since 1975 he is teaching at University of Ljubljana. | ||

+ | **Scientific interest:** mathematics and computer science, combinatorics with emphasis on graph theory, algorithms on graphs and networks, combinatorial optimization, algorithms and data structures, cluster analysis, symbolic data analysis, data visualization, and applications of information technology in education. | ||

+ | He was/is teaching courses on Introduction to computer science, Discrete structures, Combinatorics, Operations Research, Optimization Methods, Combinatorial optimization, History of mathematics and computing, Data analysis, Information technology in education, Mathematics for decision making, Information technology in data analysis, Network analysis. | ||

+ | With Andrej Mrvar he is developing Pajek, http://pajek.imfm.si, a program for analysis and visualization of large networks. He presented their results on several lectures and workshops on large network analysis. | ||

+ | He is (co)author of several papers published in scientific journals (CACM, Psychometrika, Journal of Classificatition, Social Networks, Discrete Mathematics, Algorithmica, Journal of Mathematical Sociology, etc.) and proceedings of international conferences. He co-authored two books 'Generalized blockmodeling' (with Patrick Doreian and Anuška Ferligoj) and 'Exploratory Social Network Analysis with Pajek' (with Wouter de Nooy and Andrej Mrvar) that were published in 2005 by the Cambridge University Press. The revised and expanded second edition of ESNA was published in 2012. The translation of the ESNA book in Japanese was published in 2009 by the Tokyo Denki University Press, and the translation in Chinese in 2012 by Beijing World Publishing Corporation. | ||
